How to Choose Images and What to Include in Your Portfolio

May Meeting agenda: Presenter Virginia Sosik

Virginia Sosik was our judge for the PSU show currently at Penn State Worthington. She comes to us with many years teaching experience. I am sure everyone will benefit from this outstanding presentation.

“How to Choose Images and What to Include in Your Portfolio”, will explore criteria for consideration when presenting a portfolio. Each participating member will be asked to bring 5 images that they may regard as portfolio worthy. After a brief summary of what constitutes a solid portfolio, an interactive discussion and critique for each participating member will take place. A questions and answer session will be on going through this presentation.

If you are interested in participating respond to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by return email so we can get some idea of the number of participants. This is important so we can plan the timing.

File Formats & Resolution & Resizing (by Shane McGeehan: The Photography Notebook)

File Formats, Resolution & Resizing by Shane McGeehan

Here are some more excerpts from my Photography Notebook. Due to our raging discussion at one of the meeting about image formats and resizing files, this might come in handy. It should be helpful to understand why we work with PSD or TIF files, then convert to JPG for the internet (facebook, email, websites).

File Formats - There are many formats that an image file can be converted to. Each format has their pros and cons and are designed to work best in certain situations. Some are great for compression, others for quality, website use, icons, those stupid 1990's animated graphics, and much more.
