The Northeast Photography Club Meeting, August 6th , 7:00 PM

TOPIC:     Your World in Black and White

Each member is asked to submit one recent black and white image to be viewed and discussed as part of an on-screen slideshow during the workshop portion of the meeting. The photographer has the option of remaining anonymous.

Capture may be:

  •                    In camera black and white      
  •                    Color with Black and White conversion using software
  •                    Black and white film capture with digital presentation

How to Choose Images and What to Include in Your Portfolio

Virginia Sosik was our judge for the PSU show currently at Penn State Worthington. She comes to us with many years teaching experience. I am sure everyone will benefit from this outstanding presentation.

“How to Choose Images and What to Include in Your Portfolio”, will explore criteria for consideration when presenting a portfolio. Each participating member will be asked to bring 5 images that they may regard as portfolio worthy. After a brief summary of what constitutes a solid portfolio, an interactive discussion and critique for each participating member will take place. A questions and answer session will be on going through this presentation.

Joe Edelman, Beauty and Glamour

 

As a part of our October Monthly Meeting Program we will have Joe Edelman as guest speaker. Joe Edelman is an award winning photographer and author.  His career has spanned three decades, from his start as a newspaper photojournalist to his work today photographing all types of people for commercial clients such as magazines, colleges, corporations and advertising agencies.

Mr. Edelman has received both state and national awards for fashion photography as well as photojournalism in the categories of News, Feature and Sports photography. His work has appeared in magazines like Maxim, Cosmopolitan, Get Fit and Shape to name but a few. He has completed assignments for both the New York Times and The Los Angeles Times and serviced commercial advertising markets from all over the United States. In addition to his role as photographer, Joe is nationally recognized as an innovator in shaping models portfolios and careers.    www.joeedelman.com

Capturing a Culture

As a part of our Monthly Meeting Program we will have Jim Gavenus as guest speaker. Jim Gavenus is an internationally recognized documentary photographer. His projects focusing on the human condition, social injustice and civil rights have won him numerous awards, including the Gordon Parks Documentary Photographer of the Year Award.

His work appears for Sony Music, Columbia Records, Lost Highway Records, Merlefest, FarmAid and numerous publications. He has worked with more than 30 Hall of Fame musicians, and his work is featured in the North Carolina Bluegrass Hall of Fame. Mr. Gavenus has exhibited his work in galleries and museums around the world and is represented in numerous permanent collections. Most recently, his image of Doc Watson was featured at the Grammy Awards in a memorial of legendary guitarists.

He lives in Pennsylvania, teaches photography, lectures, exhibits and works throughout the United States.  www.gavenusphoto.com
